so last weekend i was in san francisco playing a gig with pla. their bassist grace had a kid and is busy with work so couldn't make it. we opened for two headed turtle and buda belly. pretty fun wknd, got to see some folks and meet paul and andrew's girlfriends. both seem like pretty nice gals. we played at 330 ritch, which is a cool little club near at&t ballpark. the sound guy says the killers actually played there recently. i played on the same stage as the killers, sweet!
on the plane ride back to houston this week i sat next to this kid, dressed like a little punk rocker. he busted out his laptop to listen to some tunes and i notice a background of some old school guy playing a white fender p-bass. turns out this kid, prolly 14 years old, plays jazz and punk. in his punk band he's the lead singer and plays bass! i was fairly impressed since i can barely do either one at a time, let alone simultaneously.
you guys ever respond to personal ads on craigslist? from my experience, you send out a witty response and attach a photo or two, and you never hear back. you know rochester, ny, is a small town when you respond to three ads and get responses from two.
last night jeremy and i went to this joint called sammy's between downtown and midtown. i think it was big girl night but there were some exceptions. this one cute brunette was dancing in front of us and didn't have a ring on and wasn't with one of the group of guys. she opened up her phone and there was a photo of a white dog as her wallpaper. you know me and dogs so i approached her and asked her about it. she was nice enough, we chatted briefly about her pup, and then one of the white guys in her group comes over and puts his arm around her waist and pulls her away. great stuff. no matter, i'll be back. sammy's is a good place to take a group or a date who's into dancing to a live cover band or hip hop tunes.
